Andy Murray and Dan Evans save TWO match points and win BRILLIANT tie-break as Olympic dream continues into quarter-finals

Andy Murray and Dan Evans have won a brilliant match and advanced into the quarter-finals of the Olympics men’s doubles.

The British duo overcame their Belgian opponents, Joran Vliegen and Sander Gillé, in a tantalising tie-break 11-9.

The Team GB stars managed to save two match points in the tie break, having been 7-9 down, before they won four points in a row, emerging victorious 11-9.

The pair dominated the first set, winning it 6-3, after breaking their opponents in just the second game.

The second set wasn’t as smooth for Murray and Evans, with both pairs holding their serves, leading the set into a tie-break.

The tie-break at the end of the set was just as close, with the Belgians just edging out on top 8-10.

This led to a match tie-break, bringing up recent memories from their last game on Sunday, which saw Murray and Evans save five match points against their Japanese opponents, Kei Nishikori and Taro Daniel, in the previous round.

It appeared to be more of the same again for the Britons, with their opponents taking a 7-9 lead and two match points.

After winning four points in a row, Murray broke down in tears on his seat as he contemplated what had just happened following the wild celebrations.

He was spotted putting his head in his hands and sobbing in a hugely emotional reaction after doing it the hard way once again.

After winning men’s singles gold in 2012 and 2016, Murray was unable to defend his title in Tokyo due to injury.

He opted against competing in the singles in Paris, feeling he had a better shot at a medal alongside Evans, and they still have a chance.

The former Wimbledon champion has already confirmed that he will retire from tennis after the Paris Olympics and is now just one match away from the semi-finals.

They will go onto play either American pair Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, or Dutch duo Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer.
