A second Greater Manchester Police officer has been put under criminal investigation for assault after a physical altercation at Manchester Airport last month.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct also announced the officer is being investigated for potential gross misconduct for alleged breaches of police professional standards, including their use of force.

The first officer was informed of facing a criminal investigation on July 26, just three days after the incident at Manchester Airport.

He was suspended after kicking and stamping on Fahir Amaaz.

Greater Manchester Police claimed the firearms officers were subject to a “violent” attack while trying to make an arrest at terminal two.

Four men were arrested for assault and affray, with one police officer even sustaining a broken nose.

The altercation led to two nights of protests in Rochdale and Manchester.
