Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been criticised by The Sun’s former royal correspondent Charles Rae over their approach to media affairs.

Speaking on GB News, he said the royal pair make calculated decisions to avoid publications likely to scrutinise them more.

“I’ve got no problem with him talking to broadcasters”, he told Tom Harwood and Emily Carver.

“He can talk to whoever he wants, but he chooses certain people. He chooses people like Oprah Winfrey because he knows he and Meghan are going to get a soft ride.

“I don’t see him talking to a hard-nosed broadcaster who is going to put him through the wringer.”

Emily agreed with Rae’s comments and weighed in: “He’s happy to use the media when it serves him.

“But when it turns against him or publishes a story he doesn’t like, then it’s a very different Harry.”

Rae went on to accuse the Duke of Sussex of “rewriting his own history”, claiming the media previously held him in high regard.

Harry’s relationship with reporters has been fraught since he and Meghan upped sticks and hopped across the pond after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

“Let’s not forget that he was the cheeky chappy, like Prince Louis”, he said.

“Harry was dearly loved by the British public, by the tabloids. This is a guy who served in the army, did two tours of Afghanistan, started off the Invictus Games and I have total praise for him doing such things.

“But the rest of it, I’m afraid, Harry is rewriting his own history.”

Harry has waged war against tabloids in recent years and an upcoming ITV documentary is set to shed a new light on the saga.

The duke has described how his determination to fight the tabloids was a “central piece” in destroying his relationship with his family.

Harry said he wished his family had joined together with him in his campaign in the wake of the phone hacking scandal, as he gave an interview to ITV for its Tabloids On Trial documentary.

Harry alleged in a High Court claim last year that William reached a settlement with News Group Newspapers (NGN) for a “huge sum of money” over hacking claims in 2020.
