‘Here we go again!’ Andrew Pierce fumes as hate cleric ‘raises millions’ to turn Scottish island into ‘Islamic state’

Former Labour MP Khalid Mahmood has demanded the Home Office “gets a grip” on a radical Islamist’s plan to acquire Torsa, a tidal island in Scotland.

Sheikh Yasser al-Habib recorded video messages telling his followers “this is my calling” and called on them to donate to his £3million fortune.

Speaking on GB News, Mahmood spoke to Andrew Pierce, who questioned how al-Habib was able to claim asylum in Britain in the first place.

Mahmood said: “The worst case scenario is he will feel he will be able to carry out what is important to his organisation.

“We’re going to have the police and security services running around protecting people from him.

“He has made his views very clear on how opposed he is to the philosophy of the Sunni community.

“He is seriously off the peg, he just goes off into these rants. We should look at who we are hosting in this country. I’m really surprised we haven’t taken action on this.”

A furious Andrew Pierce added: “Why did we give him asylum in this country in the first place? Here we go again.”

The cleric is said to be keen on building a school, hospital and a mosque on the island, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Al-Habib also wants the island to practice Sharia law.

The plans have been met with furious opposition from locals, and the owner is understood to have no interest in selling the land to the Islamist.

Al-Habib has been accused of stirring up sectarian hatred in Britain since his arrival in the country in 2004.

Estate agents Savills said the island was still on the market.

Mahmood demanded the Home Office “gets a grip” on the issue as he spoke about Al-Habib’s past.

“He’s a sectarian scholar, if you can call him that, who creates a huge amount of division between the Shia and Sunni community.

“I’m surprised and shocked they are allowing this guy to continue operating.”
