The Home Office could be spending upwards of £10billion per year to process and house asylum seekers entering the UK, a new report has claimed.

The cost of Britain’s migrant crisis has surged nearly nine fold over the past five years, with the budget skyrocketing to £6.6billion for the year 2023 to 2024.

However, a new report by Facts4EU suggests the actual cost being paid by the Home Office could be in the tens of billions.

Sharing the details of the document with GB News, Chairman Leigh Evans told host Martin Daubney that the quality of the data produced by the Government is “unbelievably awful”, and possibly false.

Evans explained: “Everyone knows that the migrant crisis has been growing and growing fast.

“What we tried to do was interrogate government papers, specifically Home Office papers, to see if we could work out just exactly how much it’s costing.”

When asked by Martin if he believes the current figures in the public domain are the true numbers, Evans told GB News that the report’s estimate could actually be “even higher” than they have predicted already.

Evans said: “This is based on experience. Eight years of working seven days a week, interrogating information like this, you gain a sense.

“We just simply suggest that what the Home Office is spending may be a great deal more.”

Turning the discussion to the Home Office’s “areas of spending”, Evans shared with GB News that their “strategy on immigration” includes using “very expensive” staff.

Evans claimed: “It’s quite important to establish the areas of spending in the Home Office in various categories. An element of a strategy will use some very expensive salaried staff at the Home Office.

“An element of that is going to be strategy on immigration. Can we identify that cost? No we can’t.”

Referring to another of Facts4EU’s reports, Martin questioned Evans on the data gathered for illegal migration across Europe, which claimed over four million migrants have travelled to the continent in the last nine years.

Commenting on the details of the report, Martin concluded: “And that report was quantifying the number of illegal immigrants that have gone into the 27 EU member states, including 676,000 to Italy.

“Interestingly, Sir Keir Starmer thinks doing a deal with Italy would unlock the small boat crisis.

“Well, they can’t control their own borders! Once again, these figures are absolutely eye watering and simply unsustainable.”

GB News has approached the Home Office for comment.
