The Jam legend forced to quit music after ‘immediate hospital procedure’ in worrying health blow

The Jam bass player Bruce Foxton has issued an update with fans confirming he’s quitting music – for now – following a dash to the hospital.

The 68-year-old has been a member of From the Jam in recent years following the iconic rock band’s split in 1982 but now he’s decided it’s time to leave music behind him.

He issued the statement on Facebook to From the Jam fans, confirming he had to undergo an “immediate procedure” at the hospital for an undisclosed health woe.

“To all my lifelong wonderful fans,” Foxton began. “As a lot of you know my health has not been good for the past few years and the latest news is that I have had to go into hospital for an immediate procedure.

“It is with much regret and sadness that I will not be able to perform again with From the Jam until I have made a full recovery.

“The band has done everything to help me for the past couple of years and have even suggested several times that I take time off to look after my health and recuperate.

“That time has now come so I wish the band (my dear friends) continued success until I return.”

Not ruling out a return to music completely, Foxton signed off: “With God’s will I will see you all in the not too distant future on the ‘Setting Sons’ 45th anniversary tour.

“Much love and respect, Bruce,” he signed off, prompting floods of well wishes from From the Jam’s fanbase.

“Best wishes for a speedy recovery Mr Foxton xx,” one fan penned before a second echoed: “Wishing #BruceFoxton all the best.”

“All the best Bruce,” a third added on X with a flexed-arm emoji while a fourth weighed in: “Get well soon Bruce,” with a love heart emoji. (sic)

Foxton was an integral part of the The Jam alongside Paul Weller and Rick Buckler for five years before Weller decided to call time on the group.

Following the disbandment, Foxton became a member of the group Stiff Little Fingers before revisiting The Jam’s back catalogue in From the Jam.

Foxton has been entertaining From the Jam gig goers for a decade but now the band will have to continue without him.

While the bassist stopped short of delving into what the “immediate procedure” was, Foxton has been open about his health woes previously.

The former The Jam band member suffered from tinnitus for several years, although he kept it a secret while performing.

According to From the Jam’s website, the band is set to perform in Alcester and Hunstanton this month.

In October, the band is billed to return to the stage to entertain crowds in Southampton, Aylesbury, Sheffield, Northwich, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Bath and Brentwood.
