US to see ‘huge numbers’ of illegal migrants under Kamala Harris’s ‘laissez-faire’ presidency

The US is set to see “huge numbers” of illegal migrants crossing the southern border if Kamala Harris is elected president in November, a former Republican nominee told GB News.

Migrant numbers have been slowly in decline since February having come from a record high of more than 300,000 crossings in December 2023, according to the US Customs and Border Protection agency.

At the beginning of his term, President Joe Biden tasked his Vice President Kamala Harris with leading the response to border challenges but under their watch have seen a huge surge in numbers.

Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee after Biden announced he would not run for a second term as President.

Genevieve Collins, the Texas leader for Americans For Prosperity which advocates for policy change in the US, told GB News she had two main concerns over the ongoing migrant crisis and warned that if Kamala Harris became president, the US could see “huge numbers”.

When asked whether the current reduction in migrant numbers was more due to seasonal changes than Democrat policy, Collins said: “You’re spot on. It is 40C plus in South Texas.

“Right now we are in a seasonal migration pattern. It is like crossing the Sahara desert. It is so hot and it’s just really unsafe for people to try to cross into this country.”

Collins, who recently launched the Freedom is Bigger in Texas campaign to spotlight the Biden-Harris administration’s failures on a range of topics added: “You have to look at the entire four years this administration has been in office, not just this seasonal pattern.

“I’m concerned about two things.

“One, we have over these four years, over 11 million people that have entered this country illegally.

“There are eight million that we know of. And then there’s another two to three million that are believed to be getaways, which just basically means they were never captured, apprehended or talked to. They just came into the country and vanished. So that’s that’s issue one.

“Issue two is really looking at the next four years with this laissez-faire immigration policy, open border policy.

“What signal does that continue to send to people in Central America, South America, who live in very terrible circumstances?

“That’s a transfer signal that says, we have a presidential administration that is much more lax on immigration policy.

“So we might continue to see huge numbers of illegal immigration if Kamala Harris gets elected.”

Collins’s comments come after Harris narrowed her search for a vice presidential running mate to two finalists, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Harris is expected to announce her selection by Tuesday, ahead of her first scheduled public appearance with her running mate that evening at Temple University in Philadelphia.

It was unclear if a final decision has been made, three sources with knowledge of the matter said on Monday.
