WATCH: Home Secretary speaks out after Southport stabbings – ‘our thoughts are with the families and the little children’

The Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has spoken out today after the Southport stabbings.

Speaking in the House of Commons she said: “What should have been a joyful start to the summer turned into an unspeakable tragedy.”

The three girls were named as six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine.

Five other children are still in a critical condition in hospital, while the exact conditions of three other children injured are not known.
