Wiltshire Police HQ evacuated as emergency services rush to the scene

The Wiltshire Police Headquarters have been evacuated after an unspecified emergency incident, with emergency services rushing to the scene.

The public has been urged by the police to stay away from the patrolling site on London Road, Devizes.

Around 10 ambulance crews – including several Hazardous Area Response Teams – have flocked to the scene.

Also in attendance are Fire officers from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There had been some speculation amongst the public that the incident was terror-related, though police have shut this down.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said in a statement: “We are asking members of the public to avoid the Police HQ in London Road, Devizes to allow emergency services to attend a reported incident.

“The premises have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.”

The incident has since been confirmed as a false alarm, with no threat to the public.

Emergency services that rushed to the scene have since stood down.

No arrests have been made and officers confirmed that there were no injuries.

Wiltshire Police spokesperson said in an updated statement: “Officers responding to a reported incident at Devizes HQ – as a precautionary measure – have now been stood down.

“Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, there is categorically no link to terrorism.

“For public reassurance – we wish to make clear that at no point was there any risk to staff or members of the public.

“There are no reported injuries and no arrests have been made.

“We wish to thank the public, who may have been inconvenienced, for their patience and understanding.”
